original materials: oil and digital micrograph on canvas
Combining my passions for art and science, I used a confocal microscope to image pollen from an agave flower, and the wings, eye and proboscis of a hawk moth. I printed these images on a canvas to form the flower bases, wing scales, sky, and agave leaves. Then I painted around the prints to form the complete image.
The hawk moth is one of two primary pollinators for the agave.
